Gnometech's LightWave DTS Exporter is a series of Modeler
and Layout plug-ins for the Mac and Windows version
of LightWave
3D. Its purpose is to create Torque
Game Engine Three Space DTS and DSQ files that may
be used for anything from static shapes such as a lamp
post to fully animated characters controlled by the
game's player.
The current version of the LW DTS Exporter supports
most of the capabilities of the DTS file format:
- Multiple meshes built using triangles to form a
single object
- Up to 8 levels of detail independently selectable
for each mesh
- Additive, subtractive, and regular transparency
controlled using an alpha map
- Self illuminated materials
- Environmental mapping
- Multiple collision meshes
- Animation sequences within the DTS file or externally
using the DSQ file format
- Segmented or bone (node) based animation with a
single vertex capable of being influenced by more
than one bone
- A mesh segment or bone may have its position, rotation
and scale independently animated
- Blended animation sequences
- Object visibility animation
- IFL (image list) animation
- Firing of triggers during an animation
- Detail Maps, including scale
- LOS Collision Meshes
- Automatic billboard levels of detail (TSLastDetail)
- Simple animation sequence ground translation
- Animation sequence priority
In addition, the following LightWave capabilities are
automatically taken care of by the DTS Exporter:
- Animate using either forward kinematics, inverse
kinematics or a combination of the two in the same
object
- Double-sided surfaces
- Discontinuous UV coordinates
- Automatic translation of planar, cylindrical, et
al, texture projections into UV coordinates
